Choosing a Dissertation Laboratory. Laboratory choice for thesis work is arguably the most important decision you will make as a graduate student, perhaps even more important than your choice of institution. Unlike setting up an experiment, there are no standard formulas or protocols that will ensure a perfect choice. Everyone is unique and what you desire in a lab is likely to be different.
The dissertation will start with methodology lectures and a mini-proposal that will feed in to the main dissertation work that is undertaken between March and September, and where the main focus will be on self-study. Students will be appointed an academic supervisor to support their independent learning. Students are encouraged to apply the skills and knowledge gained to choose a dissertation.
